KRIS LAMORENA

Born in the Philippines, and now living in the north of England, Kris Lamorena’s abstract portraits meld faces she has observed from the street, from social media, from film and TV. The joy in her work comes from the juxtaposition of realistic and abstract elements; there is always a sense of someone we know.

In a fracturing world, these little glimpses of humanity, vulnerability and representation become even more important.

Artist Statement

Through my figurative paintings, I delve into the profound complexities of identity and representation. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, cultural influences, and the diverse narratives of individuals, my work celebrates the richness and diversity of humanity, while examining the societal constructs that shape our understanding of self.

My artistic process involves capturing moments of vulnerability, strength, and self-reflection in my subjects. I employ a combination of realism and imaginative elements to convey emotion, resilience, and the power of self-expression. By juxtaposing elements of realism with abstraction and symbolism, I challenge the viewer to look beyond the surface and explore the complex layers of human experience.
