Painter and Ceramicist

Kris Lamorena

(b. 1977, The Philippines)

Born in the Philippines, and now living in the north of England, Kris Lamorena’s abstract portraits meld faces she has observed from the street, from social media, from film and TV. The joy in her work comes from the juxtaposition of realistic and abstract elements; there is always a sense of someone we know.

In a fracturing world, these little glimpses of humanity, vulnerability and representation become even more important.

“Through my paintings, I delve into the profound complexities of identity and representation. Central to my practice is the notion that identity is not fixed or singular, but a multifaceted and ever-evolving construct. Through my work, I want to challenge the limitations and stereotypes that society often impose on individuals based on factors such as race, gender, age and sexuality.”
